What’s Your Superpower Based on Your Enneagram Type

Everyone wishes they could be a superhero. I’m here to tell you that you already are one. You have a superpower, and it’s pretty awesome. Based on your Enneagram type, you have a unique ability that you offer the world. Some Enneagram resources call this your “Focus of Attention.”

Your Focus of Attention is basically the thing you notice first when you walk into a room. It’s the thing you can’t ignore, no matter how hard you try. It’s a power that comes so naturally, it might be hard for you to believe that others don’t think that way or see it as you do.

THIS is your superpower.

You can use it for good: helping others, improving yourself, and bettering the world. Your power can also overtake you as the Symbiote does to Spider-Man.

As Uncle Ben says, “With great power comes great responsibility.” You have a duty to use your power wisely, for the betterment of humanity and yourself.

Read on with caution.

Once you know your superpower, you must strive to hone your skills. Beyond this paragraph, there is no more room for excuses to misuse your power.

Enneagram Type 1

A One’s Superpower: Finding and Fixing Imperfections

With laser-tight precision, Ones can spot a misaligned picture frame, a stain on a shirt, or a grammar mistake from across the room.

Not only do they find the error, but they know how to fix it. They will not rest until what is wrong has been corrected. Their Inner Critic will make sure of it.

Their sworn duty is to protect the world from mistakes and to achieve their impossibly high standards, because that is the “right” thing to do.

Enneagram Type 2

A Two’s Superpower: Knowing and Meeting the Needs of Others

With an inner radar, Twos know exactly what others need before they ask. This goes for their spouse, colleague, or the cashier at the supermarket.

They selflessly deny their own needs to offer help and advice for others. They will call to see if you had a good day and will bring you a basket of hand-picked goodies if you didn’t.

Their sworn duty is to serve the needs of others, even if it leads to martyrdom in the end.

Enneagram Type 3

A Three’s Superpower: Accomplishing Goals and Tasks Efficiently

With radiating confidence, Threes approach any task with charm and a time-saving solution.

They work hard and perform well at whatever they put their hands to do. Others admire them for their tenacity and success.

Their sworn duty is to finish exceptionally well with the least amount of lost resources. If they cut corners along the way, no one needs to know.

Enneagram Type 4

A Four’s Superpower: Sensing and Uncovering Missing Beauty

With a magnetic attraction, Fours sense the good, beautiful, and perfect things missing around them.

They feel deeply and express openly, often creatively and unfiltered. The lack of goodness and beauty in the world weighs them down with an unquenchable melancholy.

Their sworn duty is to seek, uncover, and share the raw authenticity of life, so others can experience the fullness of it all. The more melodrama, the better.

Enneagram Type 5

A Five’s Superpower: Detaching for the Sake of Problem-Solving

With steely cold strength, Fives can detach themselves from any subject to make the best, objective decision.

They constantly observe with distanced curiosity. Their apparent standoffishness allows them to absorb information without disruption and concentrate on future problem-solving.

Their sworn duty is to attack complicated matters with mastery and competence without distracting emotions — which can unintentionally push others away.

Enneagram Type 6

A Six’s Superpower: Predicting and Preventing What Could Possibly Go Wrong

With clairvoyant pessimism, Sixes can predict everything that might possibly go wrong. They also hold the solution to prevent it from happening.

They constantly scan the horizon for potential negative outcomes or consequences, and they work diligently to prevent them from happening.

Their sworn duty is to protect themselves and others from pain and wrongdoing, even if it leads to their constant paranoia.

Enneagram Type 7

A Seven’s Superpower: Seeing the Silver Lining in Every Situation

With a rosy disposition, Sevens will point out everything happy and exciting with a given circumstance, no matter how terrible it might seem.

They remind others of how lucky they are and how greatness is right around the corner. They realize the sun rises every morning and that hope can be found in every situation.

Their sworn duty is to spread joy and positivity in the world, even if their enthusiasm blooms from denial.

Enneagram Type 8

An Eight’s Superpower: Taking Control, Regardless of the Stakes

With ruthless aggression, Eights will take charge of any situation they find themselves in, no matter how messy.

They bring heart and purpose to the mission at hand and fight fearlessly for the underdogs. They make sure their voice is heard, others listen, and that justice is served hot.

Their sworn duty is to take charge and plow a better way for others, even if they bulldoze a few people along the way.

Enneagram Type 9

A Nine’s Superpower: Peacefully Mediating Multiple Perspectives

With intentional care, Nines can diffuse (or effectively dodge) any bomb thrown their way.

By numbing their own pain, they can salve the wounds of others. They listen — really listen — to the thoughts and opinions of others so they can build bridges of understanding amidst any disagreement.

Their sworn duty is to keep peace on Earth, no matter the cost — even if it generates bubbling resentment that could explode at any moment.
